Rain, rain, come any day!

It's long been a goal of ours to replace the gutters on this old house. I'm sure they were fine when they were put on, but over the years they've sort of taken a beating. Especially the downspouts.

One in particular has been giving us fits because it seems to siphoning water directly towards our foundation. Well, we finally got fed up and decided to do something about it.

So we used the pieces we had left over from our garage gutter and went to work.

First we too a took a good look at than angels and cut just the right right length.(The old gutter was decidedly not at the right angle, but we remedied that, don't you worry)

Once we had the measurements and pieces we needed down, we felt comfortable removing the old gutter. And when we did, we discovered the source of all our issues. We had assumed that something was wrong, but little did we know that there was a huge dent in the (inexplicable) connection between the long piece of gutter and the shorter piece that made up the entire treck down the wall. Basically, its a perfect catch for leaves, dirt, and other debris and you can bet that any water was getting shot out that hole and straight towards our foundation.

With the mystery of the leaky gutter now clear, we turned our attention to the holes left by the (inadequate) support for the original gutter. And, as a bonus we discovered during this process the exact color of our house. That's right, it is the exact shade of wood putty peach. So now if we ever want to repaint the color we have (which really, we don't) we'll know what to take to the paint store for them to match.

With those two mysteries solved, we made short work of attaching the new an improved gutter.

And there she is, sparkly new and ready for a downpour. And just in time too because as we were cleaning up it started to sprinkle and then pour. I have to say, it was pretty good timing, even for us. And we haven't had problems since.

But wait! Most importantly, where was Leroy during this process. Well where he always is, of course, supervising the progress.

I don't know how many mistakes we've avoided due to his careful eye, but I do know we owe that little guy a lot. Also, if you look carefully in this picture you can see the beginnings of our garden!
