Plumbing, day two

The plumber had to come back today to take care of the rest of the issues. He did an awesome job and our basement looks way better.

He even left room so we can eventually replace the beams with Wayne.

Also, mom did some painting inside the cabinets but i forgot to take some pics. Pretty awesome of her to take vacation, help us with the plumber, AND paint. Go supermom.

Plumbing

Today my mom hung out at the house to be there while the plumber came to fix, well, pretty much everything and while the carpet cleaner did his thing. As far as the plumbing goes, i'm super excited to have this taken care of. There was a crazy laundry list of things that needed to be done, but here are a few of the highlights:

Move the water softener heater (good catch Mark) to a location that actually makes sense, ie. by the boiler:

instead of back at the entrance to the killing room where it was (on that dark slab):

He also fixed the venting for the washer (check out that wall. can't you feel the 1800's calling your name. Its pretty awesome)
And re-ran the waste pipping for the washer in such a way that eventually we can add a bathroom of the master bed:

Not to mention re-routing all the soft/hard water lines since they were completely switched. Mom quoted him as saying "they got creative" with the plumbing, so i'm pretty relieved to get that fixed before we move in.

For good measure, Matt and i also did some painting to round out the night

Yes, that is me being eaten by a cabinet in the top photo. If anyone decides to crawl into our bottom cabinets they are going to be pretty impressed with the fact that even the tops of the shelves are the correct color. Not that anyone ever will, but just in case...

Cabinets

Today Matt was awesome and worked on the house while my mom, sister and I went to art fair on the square and talked wedding. He painted the inside of some of the cabinets

And spent some time with Mark uninstalling the old dishwasher. Good bye 1971. I'm pretty sure my parents had the same model when we were growing up

And putting in the new

Well, at least most of the way.  Notice the cords at the bottom. Turns out, and hold on to your seats, the original job was just sort of slapped together and probably originated when the dishwasher was brand spankin new. So we ( and by we I mean Matt and Mark) need to put in a new breaker box and redo some of the wiring. But at least now all our appliances were made in this century.

Its like Butta

The color that is. Yesterday we finished up the second coat of paint on the walls plus finished the inside of the pantry cabinets in the dinette and the radiators.

Dave and I also primed the shelves that go in the kitchen, but that doesn't make for great pics.

Actually, for the amount of work it was, this one picture doesn't really do it justice.

New Dishwasher and Fridge

Tonight we picked up Roy and Rayanne's old fridge and dishwasher. It was pretty much the best purchase ever because not only did they sell them to us on the cheap, but they fed us dinner and helped us get them on the truck and into the house (thanks also to Mark who was an integral part of the moving process).

We did have to take the doors off the house and the fridge, but the men made it happen. Rayanne and I kept Clara occupied, and I think that was a fair trade. I got to sit and make a baby giggle while Matt sweated it up removing doors and moving heavy appliances. You'll get no complaints from me on that one.

I forgot to take pictures, but since we will be there tomorrow, i'll snap some then and throw them in.

We haven't installed the diswasher yet. I like to think its taking in the view before being relegated to the kitchen to stair at cabinets forevermore.

Backsplash

well, we aren't working on the house tonight cause both matt and i are super tired from a stressful day at work, but i thought i'd put something up about the backsplash idea i have. I'm thinking of something that looks like this:

or like this (right color on the copper, but wrong style on the tiles since ours are square)

Still trying to figure out the best way to achieve this look though, since we will be painting, not replacing, the tiles. i'm hoping to find a copper colored paint that will work, or maybe a metallic glaze i can use over some flat paint.

some randomness

All i did today was reprime some of the cabinet doors, and fill some of the old hardware holes with wood putty, which doesn't make for great pictures:

So, for your viewing pleasure here is a pic of the lovely porch furniture my parents bought us as a housewarming gift:

And, a before and after shot of the apple tree that Zach so kindly chopped down for us  in the backyard:

You can tell how hot its been here. Poor grass
